Secrets to Reclaiming Your Time and Finding Your True Calling

Posted by:

Do you feel like your days are constantly slipping away, leaving you wondering where the time went? You’re not the only one facing this challenge. Many of us struggle to manage our time effectively, often resulting in sacrificing our personal goals and dreams in the process. These simple, impactful strategies will help you reclaim your time and focus on living a life you can’t get enough of!

Why We Lose Sight of What Fulfills Us

In a day filled with endless tasks, commitments, and distractions, it’s easy to lose track of time. You might start your morning with a plan, but by the end of the day, you find that very little of what you truly wanted to accomplish has been done. It’s not just about the hours slipping through your fingers; it’s about the impact this has on your connection to what truly brings you joy and fulfillment. The constant cycle of busyness can make it hard to even remember what your passions are, let alone pursue them.

The question then becomes, why does this happen? It’s often because our ‘me time’ gets buried under a pile of what we think we “need” to do, leaving little room for what we “want” to do. The noise of daily responsibilities drowns out the quiet voice inside us that knows what makes us feel alive.

Recognizing this pattern is the first step towards change. By understanding the traps of time mismanagement, you can begin to carve out moments for self-reflection and, ultimately, for pursuing the activities that light up your life.

The Importance of ‘Finding Your True Calling

Discovering your true calling often gets put in the same box as simply ‘finding what you love.’ And while that is a part of it, your true calling runs deeper than that. It’s about tapping into your very essence to connect with your inner self. It is about understanding your unique strengths and recognizing the activities that make you feel most alive.

Knowing what fulfills you is essential to creating a life filled with purpose, meaning, joy, and satisfaction. When you align your daily actions with your true passions, you unlock a level of motivation and fulfillment that ordinary tasks just can’t provide. The importance of this alignment can’t be overstated.

Living in harmony with your true calling empowers you to overcome challenges with resilience, embrace opportunities with enthusiasm, and make decisions with confidence. It transforms your perspective, changing the daily grind from passive to ecstatic.

I don’t want you to feel discouraged if you feel out of touch with what your true calling is. There are so many people in this world who have thought about it, but never stepped up to the plate to try for it. You are taking the right steps to start living a life you love.

Be prepared to get curious, for active exploration, introspection, and even the courage to make changes to align your day-to-day actions with your life goals and ambitions. Your true calling is not just about what you do, but how you feel while doing it—fully engaged, deeply satisfied, and genuinely happy.

Strategies to Reclaim Your Time for Self-Discovery

I know you’re busy, so the thought of adding more time into your day to manage your schedule or for self-discovery might seem counter-intuitive, but I promise you it is worth it. And it doesn’t have to be as daunting as it might seem. The strategies below are curated so you can start right now, but also keep them going from anywhere. They will help you make the most out of the time you already have!

Audit Your Time

Keep a log for a week to see where your time actually goes. This awareness helps you identify and eliminate time-wasters.

Set Clear Priorities

Define what is most important to you and allocate your time accordingly. Knowing your priorities helps you focus your time on what truly matters. Not sure where to start? Make two lists, things you absolutely can’t skip, and things that you potentially could. This exercise will help you slow down to think through the importance of each one, and also create a visual to keep us in check.

Learn to Say No

Politely declining invitations or requests that don’t align with your priorities frees up more time for your personal exploration. It can be hard at first if you haven’t practiced boundary setting, but I promise it is worth the initial step out of your comfort zone.

Limit Screen Time

Set specific times for a “digital detox.” This will help avoid the inevitable endless scrolling on social media, constant text messages, and ‘just one more email’ trap we all fall victim to. This opens up pockets of time for more fulfilling activities.

Schedule Downtime

Taking time for yourself is not selfish. It is essential to self-care. Block off time in your calendar for activities that contribute to your self-discovery journey. Treating this time as non-negotiable keeps you committed. You deserve just as much importance as you give your friends, work, and the doctor…so even if you’re tempted, avoid skipping it!

Utilize Technology Wisely

Use apps and tools that enhance productivity, not distract from it. This can streamline tasks, leaving more time for personal development.

Delegate and Outsource

Share responsibilities at home or work. It can get easy to get caught up in doing tasks because we feel like we are the only ones who do it ‘the right way‘ or don’t fully give others a chance to show up for us. Try delegating tasks to others. This can free up time to find what you are really passionate about (I know it is not the dishes!).

Embrace Quality Over Quantity

Focus on doing fewer things well rather than spreading yourself too thin and trying to do everything. You don’t always need to spin so many plates just because you can. While it’s impressive, you don’t need to risk burnout. This shift in mindset can reduce stress and create space for activities that align with your true calling.

Establish Routines

Create morning or evening routines that encourage reflection and personal growth. Consistency in these routines ensures you are self-aware of what is or what isn’t working for you. It helps instill mindfulness and allows us to stay connected with our inner voice.

Explore New Interests

We’re creatures of habit, making it hard to step outside our comfort zones. Push yourself to try new things and explore new interests. If you’re faced with an opportunity you’re not sure you’ll like, embrace the “won’t know until I try” mindset. Sometimes, you can surprise yourself! This exploration can spark inspiration and reveal hidden passions, leading you closer to uncovering your true calling in unexpected ways.

Overcoming Setbacks When Seeking Your True Calling

Navigating the path to your true calling is rarely a straight line; it’s filled with ups and downs, successes and setbacks. Setbacks will come up, so I want you to have compassion with yourself when they arise.

When faced with setbacks, the key is not to view them as roadblocks but as opportunities to learn, adapt, and evolve. Maintaining a positive outlook will be so impactful in ensuring you find your true calling and have more time for ‘you.’

Resilience becomes your greatest asset, allowing you to bounce back with greater insight and determination. Here are three easy steps you can come back to when

  1. Stay Connected with Your Why: Keep your core motivations at the forefront of your mind. Remembering why you started can reignite your passion and drive during tough times.
  1. Seek Support and Guidance: You don’t have to face challenges alone. Lean on mentors, peers, or a supportive community who can offer perspective, advice, and encouragement.
  1. Adjust and Adapt: Be willing to reassess and modify your approach if something isn’t working. Flexibility can lead to discovering new avenues and opportunities that align even more closely with your true calling.

I want to challenge you to embrace setbacks as part of your journey, which enriches your experience and brings you closer to realizing your true potential and purpose. Each obstacle is a stepping stone, providing valuable lessons that guide you toward a more fulfilling life.

Embracing your true calling starts with reclaiming the moments that slip through your fingers. It’s about pausing in a world that never stops moving, to ask yourself what truly brings you joy. Today marks the first step towards a life where your passions aren’t just a distant thought but a daily reality.
