Therapist Corner: Dana Guynes, PT

We’re running short blog entries of “Q&A”s with our therapists to give patients the opportunity to get to know them a little better. Here’s one with our newest therapist, Dana!

1) Where is home for you?

I was born in Richmond, VA, but moved to Denton, TX before I turned one. We lived there for 7 years, moved to St. Louis, MO for 3 years, then back to Richmond until I finished my Master’s degree at VCU. I moved to Northern Virginia in 2002 to be with my husband.

2) You’ve mentioned you are a big sports enthusiast. What are some of your personal favorites?

My first sports love will always be volleyball. I played throughout high school and made the VCU team my freshman year as a walk-on. I ultimately decided not to play in order to focus on my academics and maintain my scholarship. I also played basketball from 4th grade through high school, was on the swim team, and played softball. But now, I mainly focus on running and have more recently finished my first sprint triathlon and hope to do more.

3) What do you do and where can we find you when you aren’t working with patients?

I have two beautiful girls, 5.5 and 2.5, who keep me very occupied. My family and l love spending time together going swimming, ice skating, and exploring nature. I also try to keep up with exercise.

4) What do you enjoy most about working in physical therapy?

There is nothing better than getting the chance to help people get back to better health, and living their life with less pain and better function. I have also had the chance to get to know so many wonderful people. My patients usually know more about what is going on in my life than my co-workers!
